ICS Students Shine in NIH AIM-AHEAD 2023 Health Equity Challenge

AIM-AHEAD

Congratulations to ICS graduate students Arianna Bunnell and Armin Soltan, and Math graduate student Zain Jabbar, for placing 3rd in the NIH AIM-AHEAD 2023 Health Equity Data Challenge! The team designed an AI system for predicting breast cancer stage in biopsy histology images from high-risk patients, and has been invited to present their model at the AIM-AHEAD Annual Meeting in Washington DC. Zain and Armin are both members of the Hawaii Digital Health lab with Dr. Peter Washington, working in AI for Hawaii healthcare applications. Arianna researches AI for accessible breast cancer screening in the Sadowski ML Lab with Dr. Peter Sadowski in ICS and Dr. John Shepherd at the UH Cancer Center
