BAM – BS/MS 5-year Pathway

The Bachelors and Masters (BAM) degree program is intended to allow students the opportunity to receive both the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Science in Computer Science in 5 years. To be admitted into the program, students must submit the Graduate Admissions Applications as well as all required program admission materials specified in the “Graduate Study” section by the start of their junior year (5th semester).

Requirements

Students pursuing this degree should meet the degree requirements for a regular Master of Science in Computer Science. Gateway course: ICS 311 with a grade B or higher.

There are three pathways students can take depending on their BS degree option. Each pathway differs in the set of courses that can be double-counted for both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

  • B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science
The following courses can be double-counted in BS in Computer Science and MS in Computer Science. The minimum grade requirement is B (not B-) or higher: (ICS 414 or ICS 435 or ICS 451 or ICS 466) and up to two of the following: ICS 613, ICS 621, ICS 632, ICS 664, ICS 691
  • B.S. in Computer Science/Data Science Track and M.S. in Computer Science
The following courses can be double-counted in BS in Computer Science in Data Science track and MS in Computer Science. The minimum grade requirement is B (not B-) or higher : (ICS 451 or ICS 466 or ICS 483 or ICS 491) and up to two of the following: ICS 613, ICS 621, ICS 622, ICS 664, ICS 691
  • B.S. in Computer Science/Security Science Track and M.S. in Computer Science
The following courses can be double-counted in BS in Computer Science in Data Science track and MS in Computer Science. The minimum grade requirement is B (not B-) or higher: (ICS 423, ICS 426, ICS 455 or ICS 495), and up to two of the following: ICS 621, ICS 623, ICS 655, ICS 691

BAM students in any of the three ICS BAM pathways would continue to take ICS 690 (1 cr) in excess of the BS degree requirements. If BAM students cannot take ICS 690 in the last year of the bachelor’s degree they will need to take it in the Fall of the 5th year.
