ICS Students Take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in 2023 Hawai‘i Annual Code Challenge

Congratulations to the ICS and CE students and their teammates who took several prizes in the 2023 Hawai‘i Annual Code Challenge!

First place for Coded Solutions went to Ethan Chee (team captain), Timothy Huo, Michelle Leano, Eda Cadiena, and Marissa Halem for their implementation of a web portal to facilitate civic engagement around rebuilding Lahaina.

Second place for Coded Solutions went to Micah Tilton (team captain), Kaylee Agorilla, and Malisa Lo for an application that provides a conversational agent, powered by AI, that supports a flexible and intuitive conversational search function. Their application has been implemented on the UH ITS Ask Us website.

Third place for Coded Solutions went to Giorgio Tran (team captain), Ana Araujo, James Grande, Rob Godfrey, and Chun Saito for development of a user-friendly platform will increase accuracy and efficiency of the process of collecting and dealing with marine debris.

Hawaii Annual Code Challenge

HACC, now in its eighth year, was created to encourage engagement between Hawaiʻi residents and the local technology community to modernize state functions and services for a more effective, efficient and open government. Another objective of the hackathon is to strengthen the pipeline of the IT workforce and expand the tech industry in Hawaiʻi.
