Policy on use of POST 318B

POST 318B is a general purpose classroom space with the following policy for its use:

1. ICS Special Events. Periodically during the semester, the ICS Department hosts special events (such as seminars or security contests) for which POST 318B is best suited due to its configurability (with respect to furniture and hardware/software availability).  The highest priority use of 318B is to provide space for these special events.

2. ICS regular courses requiring special purpose hardware. Some courses (such as robotics) require specialized hardware/software access that POST 318B can provide more easily than general UH classrooms. The second highest priority use of 318B is to provide space for these courses. Note that ICS special events take priority over these courses, so the instructor must make alternative arrangements in case the room is required for a special event.

3. General ICS courses. The lowest priority use of 318B is for regular ICS courses.  Note that ICS special events take priority over these courses, so the instructor must make alternative arrangements in case the room is required for a special event.

ICS faculty wishing to use POST 318B for any of the above three cases must request its use from the ICS Chair.  Generally, at least one week’s advance notice is required.

Weekend/night-time access. Occasionally, there may be a desire to use POST 318B for ICS-related events after regular business hours, such as in the evenings or weekends.   The basic issue with weekend/night-time access is lack of security and lack of availability of ICS system administrators.  If an ICS faculty member wishes to use the room outside of normal business hours, they must: (a) make a request to the ICS Chair at least one week in advance of the event to make sure the desired access does not conflict with current use of the room; and (b) commit to continuous monitoring of the room over the course of the entire event for security purposes.  The ICS Chair will review the request and, if approved, will make arrangements with the faculty member for access to the room.
