Research Assistantships in Cultural Modeling: Several graduate research assistantships are available for students to work on programming a model for predicting likely violence based on cultural models. This is an interdisciplinary research project that combines fundamental social science theories with agent-based simulations. The Principle Investigator on the project is Dr. Sun-Ki Chai from the Sociology department and the computer science co-PIs are Dr. David Chin (expertise in agent modeling and natural language processing) and Dr. Scott Robertson (expertise in HCI). Qualifications are a B.S. in computer science or equivalent degree or experience. Desirable qualifications include experience in agent-based simulations or similar AI programming and in software engineering tools and environments.
