IT Systems Engineer Intern

The IT Systems Engineer Intern assists in supporting, monitoring, testing, and and troubleshooting of all hardware and software problems pertaining to LAN and regional WAN.  The IT Systems Engineer Intern is required to provide a high level of service to internal clients fast paced and challenging office and jobsite environment. Occasional travel to other islands and mainland may be necessary.

DUTIES:

• Assist Network Administrator/IT Systems Engineer in undertaking preventative maintenance and optimization of network and communications resources (whether internally or externally hosted).
• Assist Network Administrator/IT Systems Engineer in performing daily backups of regional servers and manage off-site storage of backup media. Ensure integrity of data backups at remote offices and jobsites.
• Assist Network Administrator/IT Systems Engineer in the configuration and deployment of software and hardware pertaining to all workstations, peripheral devices, servers, telecommunications and network equipment.
• Provide first tier help-desk function, troubleshooting problems on workstations, peripheral devices, servers, telecommunications and network connectivity at offices and jobsites.
• Assist Network Administrator/IT Systems Engineer with compilation and maintenance of documentation for existing technology resources including hardware inventory, network diagrams, and software licenses.
• Assist in research, development and maintenance of new technology implementation within the company.
• Identify opportunities for improvement in existing information technology and operational systems and processes.
• Perform frequent user and workstation moves, adds and changes within offices and jobsites.
• Schedule bi-weekly preventative maintenance visits to remote offices and jobsites.
• Record meeting minutes from technology committee meetings.

Requirements:

• Current student or recent graduate in computer science or related discipline.
• Software skills and experience (helpful but not necessary):
• Microsoft Windows XP Professional
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003
• Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007
• Microsoft Outlook 2003
• Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Understanding of TCP/IP and VPN technology
• Understanding of wireless LAN technology
• Understanding of VoIP technology
• IBM AS/400 client access
• Veritas BackupExec 10.x
• Citrix environment
• FilesX Backup and Restore technology
• FileMaker v5.0-8.x
• Inter-tel phone management software
• .NET and .XML experience

Compensation: 

• Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
