IT Specialist

Work on campus at the Pacific Islands Fishery Science Center ( PIFSC) Information and Technology System (ITS) at 2570 Dole Street!

Flexible. 20 hrs/week while school is in session & full time hrs avail. during breaks.

ITS provides overall IT support and guidance for federal and JIMAR staff at various locations. Student will work to secure and connect Mac computer systems to an existing network. Student will also assist existing network administrator in the installation and configuring of network and security systems. Position requires the ability to recognize and analyze problems, research potential solutions, select and implement the solution that best meets the user’s needs, and follow-up to make sure there are no undesired side effects.

Student with at least 1 year remaining in school; min 2.0 gpa for undergrads and 3.0 for grads; perform as a Network Engineer or Computer Specialist with a background in the administration of Mac computer systems; ability to connect Mac systems into a Windows domain and configure systems to access network resources on Windows servers; and ability to configure security on Mac systems so users cannot violate policies is highly desired. Networking skills to include wired and wireless networks; associated equipment such as switches, firewall, and routers; domain name service and I/P configuration and assignment. Candidate must be a US Citizen and be able to apply for/and receive a security clearance.
 

Position may be converted to full time federal employment upon graduation based on successful performance and project funding and need. Promotion potential for a full time position would be up the a GS-12 equivalent (currently 56,333 - 82,528 + 25% COLA).
